Media Release - Phuket Sixes

After a weather affected Day Two, Day Three dawned bright and clear for the final four matches of the round-robins played. At the completion of the round robin matches, teams were ranked into two divisions, which will the broken into the final four pools in the play offs for the trophies on the fourth and final day.

- ROUND ROBIN FIXTURES

MATCH ONE

The Phuket All Stars got play under way against the Wild Men from Borneo 2 with a great knock from the openers. Promising youngster Jasper Joy (7no) and Ron Jones (14no) carried their bats through the innings and made the most of the loose bowling of the Wild Men, letting 50 sundries through and boosting the total to 71. The Wild Men replied with 62 for the loss of one wicket (Noddy 17, runout) and Freebie top scoring with 23no.

MATCH TWO

The Storm Chasers got the crowd going with their committed running between wickets, which saw their innings total climb to 51. 4 wickets fell, shared around amongst the MG7 Warriors bowlers, with a run out on the last ball the final blow for the Chasers. The Warriors got their chase off to a solid start with opener Casino contributing 20 before falling to the bowling of Divan, the Warriors ultimately achieving the required 52 to win in the fourth over.

MATCH THREE

The third match of the day was contested between Bat 69 and CBBs, with the honours going to the CBBs with a fantastic run chase in the second innings. Bat 69 notched 61 runs with the loss of 2 wickets (Karan Sori, 6, caught off the bowling of Dixie) and Amish Raja (17, bowled Stretch). The CBBs run chase was pushed along by Wolf Pack import Eggy, who smashed his way to 31 before retiring. Imran contributed 17 to the total before being trapped LBW off Indra, the chase completed in the fourth over.

MATCH FOUR

The final match of the round robin series was played between the Wild Men from Borneo 1 and the Desa Bangles. The Wild Men lost 2 wickets (Roxy, 4) and Ting Tong (9) on their way to a final score of 53. Desa Bangles lost 3 wickets in their chase, but achieved the required score with a big 6 hit by David off the last ball of the over, delivered by Wolf Pack ring in Coxy.

SECOND ROUND FIXTURES

MATCH ONE

The second round was kicked off with a great match between the Phuket Juniors and CBBs. Jasper Joy joined the local kids and boosted their confidence enormously with his experience and temperament. The Juniors posted 60 with the loss of no wickets, Joy finishing on 20no and Tae on 24no. In reply the CBBs only managed 40 runs with the loss of one wicket (Imran run out on 22). The Phuket Juniors once again did themselves proud, conceding only 2 sundries in their fielding innings and it is wonderful to see their skills developing so well.

MATCH TWO

Bat 69 came out swinging to achieve a total of 104. Two wickets fell (Indrana, run out on 9 and Karan caught for a duck) with Vishal top scoring on 32 before retiring. The Wild Men from Borneo made a valiant effort against the talent of the Bat 69 bowlers, managing to notch 2 for 34 in reply. Indrana starred with the ball, taking the wickets of Ginger and Coxy, finishing with figures of 2 for 3.

MATCH THREE

Match three went down to the final ball of the game, with the Desa Bangles upsetting heavy favourites MG7. MG7 batted first and posted 2 for 62, with Usman out for a duck (bowled Cheong) and Faisal caught and bowled Kamran. The Desa Bangles were there to play and got the chase off to a cracking start with David showing his dominance and smashing his way to the maximum score before retirement. MG7 fought hard, but Cheong made the most of the two balls his faced, posting 4 then 2 to seal the match.

MATCH FOUR

The Wolf Pack openers continued their form from the first two days smashing 4s and 6s to get the Pack off to a great start in their batting innings. Amassing 86 with the loss of 3 wickets (Cess 25; Jenko 25; Spanna 4) the boys continued their campaign in fine form. Mt Compass, set 87 for the win, came to the crease with purpose. Impressive batting from Martin (31 retired) set the boys on the right track, but some very tight bowling from Coxy (0 for 2) and Jenko (1 for 7) slowed the run rate down and Mt Compass ended their innings on 1 for 52 in reply.

MATCH FIVE

This match was the highest scoring of them all, with 188 runs scored in a very entertaining game. This showed just how well the pitch was playing which was prepared by Dixie Joy. Etihad batted first and scored an imposing score of 98. Sohail batted very well for 34 retired. Sharifally then came out chasing admirably with both Whited and Doggie retiring on 30. They kept the good batting up, however to fall just short on a score of 90.

MATCH SIX

The final match of the day had the Storm Chaser from England facing the MG7 Warriors of Kuwait. The Storm Chasers batted well to make 72, with Harry Singh making an impressive 22 not out. MG7 Warriors came out strong, but fell short in an exciting finish, making 70, 2 loose by 2. Asim batted very well to score 25. Harry Singh completed a great match by bowling a fine last over.
