Day 3 wrap from the 9th Phuket International Cricket Sixes | 20 April 2012 | | Despite two rain shower interruptions this morning the 9th Phuket International Cricket Sixes progressed swimmingly and close to schedule as the round robin first round of the ICC award winning tournament reaches its conclusion.
The day started early, the first match starting at 8am, to squeeze in matches lost to rain yesterday.
The Skylarks from Kuwait looked in impressive form, and certainties for the Cup division, when they demolished a hopeful Frances de Sales side. Razzak of the Skylarks was ruthless with the bat hitting boundaries to all parts of the ground as the Skylarks reached their winning target of 46 with 2 overs remaining.
At the other end of the spectrum the Wild Men from Borneo scored a modest 30 runs versus the Shepperton Sharks and lost the match convincingly when Shepperton reached the target with 3 overs to spare.
Shepperton had a more challenging match versus Phuket newbies Leederville CC in an all-Aussie clash. Leederville batted first and posted a reasonable total of 69 despite some excellent bowling from Simon who achieved a rare double wicket maiden, and Frysey who took 3 wickets for 2 runs. Nick McInerney made 30 runs for Leederville. Shepperton reached their winning target with more than an over to spare thanks largely to a breezy 33 not out from Longy.
Win of the day was earned by the Thai boys of the PCDC Natives who triumphed over the Goorambat Tigers from Australia by 9 runs. For the Natives Pao scored 13 and Parn 12 as they posted 35 runs. In reply the Tigers made the lowest total of the day, 26, as the Natives took 5 wickets of which Parn took 2.
Cup, Plate, Bowl and Spoon divisions will be determined following the conclusion of the first round tomorrow morning and will be followed by a finals round.
Play gets underway tomorrow in the 24 team tournament at 9am.
Spectators are welcome and entry to the KGSG ground in Chalong, Phuket is free.
