MG7 set the pace on Day One of the 9th Phuket International Cricket Sixes
18 April 2012

Report from the first day of the 9th Phuket International Cricket Sixes being held at KGSG in Phuket, Thailand.

Rain showers interrupted play twice today on the first day of the Phuket International Cricket Sixes, but the covers quickly came on, the wicket held up and ultimately not much time was lost.

Twenty-four teams from eight countries are competing in the four day, ICC award winning cricket tournament.

MG7 team from Kuwait are tipped for good things after their strong performance and win over former Sixes champions the Corner Tigers from Pakistan at lunchtime by 12 runs despite some massive sixes from Haroon of the Tigers who retired on 31. Ashar of the Kuwait outfit bowled probably the fastest over of the day and conceded 10 runs. Earlier MG7 had beaten Baulkham Hills with 2 overs to spare chasing 39 to win, Audi hitting a breezy 21 not out.

Lamma CC from Hong Kong, who have played in every one of the nine Phuket Sixes and won the Plate in 2004, posted a victory over Pinjarra CC from Australia. Ben Cooper starred for Lamma with 30 not out, Lamma winning by 18 runs. Earlier they had lost to another Phuket regular side the Leeming Spartand from Perth, Australia.

14 matches were be played today despite the rain. Play starts again at KGSG tomorrow at 9am following the Sixes Player Party tonight at the Karon Sea Sands Resort.
