Day 3 of the Montpelier Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2007

Lamma CC of Hong Kong continued their assault on the title for the Montpelier Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2007 with a narrow win over former champions, the Corner Tigers, on the third day of the tournament at Karon Stadium.

Lamma posted a modest 57 runs from their 5 allotted overs which didn’t seem nearly enough as Haroon Qazi and Imran Idrees of the Tigers set about the Lamma bowling attack. But some tight overs from Trevor Chappell, Tim Raynor and Andrew Minnitt from Lamma kept a lid on the Tigers’ batsmen and they could only reach 56, Lamma winning the match by 1 run and ensuring their place in the Cup semi final.

In other top division action the CBB Postels defeated the Island Cricketeers after notching up a good score of 83, with Kenny Jackson and Saurav ‘Dollywood’ Chatterjee both retiring. Local side the Cricketeers were then restricted to just 54 by some miserly CBB bowling.

The Shanghai Devilrays registered a win today over Laguna Phuket in a high-scoring encounter. Laguna batted first and made 80 runs off their overs with useful contributions from Roddy Meyer and Stuart Redding. But Shanghai, in their first Phuket Sixes, reached their target with 5 balls to spare, Razaq retiring on 32.

In Spoon action, Bert ‘Budgie’ Beatson made an incredible duck from 6 deliveries for the Applecross Postels as they took on the Wild Men from Borneo. Despite this, Applecross still managed to reach 66 runs and the Wild Men could only get to 41 runs, Troy Harvey retiring on 24 for the Wild Men, to give them a win by 25 runs.

Finals day action of the Montpelier Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2007 commences at Karon Stadium at 9am on Sunday.

Entrance for spectators is free and refreshments are available at the ground all day.
